Discuss/Reflect On These Questions
- Why is it important to realize that Jesus not only provides the resurrection and life but is the resurrection and the life? What are the primary differences between those two understandings?
- How has fear gripped you in the past? What are the particular ‘pressure’ points in your life where you are tempted to fear today?
- How does Jesus’ bold statement “I am the resurrection and the life” give you hope in these fears? How have you been delivered from the fear of death because of Christ’s own resurrection power?
- The gospel is about transformation in this life and hope in the life to come. How has your life been transformed? When did you have a “Martha-moment” of confessing faith in Jesus?
Almighty Father, how amazing it is to know that the grave is nothing to fear for Thy beloved Son Jesus has conquered death. We need such good news this morning and we pray that we would receive it by faith with joy and gladness. When we are tempted to fear, may we quickly turn to Thee. When we are tempted to despair, may our hearts find their rest in Thy presence and promise. Let our answer to the Christ’s question, ‘do you believe,’ be like that of Martha’s; “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God who is coming into the world.”
We ask for Thy mercy on our country, not because we deserve it but because Thou are a merciful God. Give our leaders wisdom as they seek to guide us through this crisis. Give us compassionate hearts who will love others sacrificially and wholeheartedly. Let the light of Christ Jesus shine in Your people this day. Amen.
